SS 409M / AISI 409M Coils are ferritic stainless steel coils renowned for their corrosion resistance, high temperature oxidation resistance, as well as their cost-effectiveness. SS 409M is an altered version of AISI 409 stainless steel with controlled chemistry that improves weldability and mechanical stability. The mechanism is built on a ferritic structure containing chromium — in the presence of oxygen, chromium creates a thin, passive oxide layer on the steel's surface that shields against further corrosion and oxidation. The ferritic microstructure provides high thermal stability, low thermal expansion and resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
